The city of La Spezia has archaic origins. More recent evidence dates back to the Roman Empire. Here a mild climate prevails thanks to the protection on both sides from mountain ranges. It is a fun and lively city with many parks and a large port. Napoleon himself once recognized the uniqueness and potential of this natural Gulf. The historic centre of the city is located opposite the waterfront. We recommend a walk-through street Prione with many boutiques and cafes. Also, worth visiting is Porto Mirabello, a beautiful “open” port with several restaurants and bars overlooking the super yachts moored next to the main square. Porto Mirabello is the favourite place of citizens to go for a walk. You can get there on foot from the western side of the promenade, crossing an elegant white bridge that resembles a giant sailing yacht.
